I recently came across the theory that the Moche-culture might have practized recreational anal sex and only resorted to vaginal penetration when they wanted to conceive.
The explicit pottery they left behind is a strong indicator, showing not only penetration but making sure it’s clear it’s anal penetration.

I’ve been fascinated by the Moche for many years. As an Indigenous person who’s culture has been interpreted by anthropologists for a long time, I’m aware that we have no context for this work and it’s actual significance among the Moche - who are not around to interpret these things for us.
As an Anal Only enthusiast I am intrigued and intensely curious about it. The overwhelming breadth of the material culture artifacts are anal and that certainly says it is of some significance… wish we could know with certainty.
In the meanwhile, it’s fun to conjecture. I wonder if anyone has ever developed any stories abt a fictional culture that views anal sex as the prime form of recreational sex, and vaginal only for procreation…

That article … well, the part about Roman culture isn’t quite true. Anal sex happened, and everyone was cool with it, so long as you, an upstanding Roman citizen only pitched, but didn’t catch. Then, it was seen as problematic, and unmanly.
Here in Europe “going Greek” always means having anal sex. Ancient Greek had anal sex al lot according to historians. And the south of Italy, with Sicily as main area, is also known for using anal sex as means to avoid losing verginity or getting pregnant.
But when I was on a website with only anonymous stories, there were really a lot of southern US girls who only had anal sex till marriage. Starting very young, like 13 years old girls having a lot of anal sex with their boyfriends and their friends. Those were stories told by the girls themselves.
It kinda struck me how many places in the world had anal sex oriented behavior. Russian women also consider it normal to take it up the ass. Russian men don’t even ask, they simply shove it up the girls asshole when they feel like it. Read a story once of a foreign girl livibg in Russia. Almost every Russian man she dated boldly told her, even at the first date, he was going to fuck her ass that night.
