I enjoy learning about the minutiae of history of subjects that interest me. Sex, especially anal sex, interests me. Also, business concepts and development interests me. And the path of the development of the Internet & World Wide Web interests me.
Since porn viewing is the reason for an amazingly huge percentage of worldwide Internet traffic, porn is relevant to all of us who use the Internet (and even all the people that don’t use the Internet because those who do use the Internet pretty much control what happens on this planet). I was completely stunned when I recently saw statistics of Internet porn traffic that were reputed to be reliable. (I am not quoting any statistics here because I have not done enough research to be reasonably sure of accuracy. You can look it up yourself if you care to.)
All that triangulates on the country of Hungary where, it is said, that the largest production volume of video anal porn first developed.
It seems that the development of anal porn in Hungary really comes down to the actions of a few producers (back in the days when video producers and distributors controlled the market). I really think we are talking about initially as few as 4-5 people. They were seeking “the next big thing” to boost their businesses. It is amazing that so few people could have such an enormous worldwide impact on something like anal porn.
However, I don’t know if the Hungarian producers either: A) just identified an existing, unfulfilled market OR if they B) created something that all of a sudden millions of people realized that they wanted to see.
There have been several times in my life – without any prior desire or need for a product – when I saw some newly invented product that suddenly caused me to realize that I absolutely needed to have that product in my life. That is the “B” category.
In regard to anal porn, I fall into the “B” category. I did not know that I wanted anal porn until I first saw it. I think it was John Holmes buried in a stately, beautiful (even with her clothes on) brunette, and produced by the Swedish Erotica brand. [Google says the Swedish Erotica brand was created by “Caballero Control Corporation in California, USA” – NOT in Hungary.]
However, if I am remembering correctly (I did some actual research on this stuff and talked to some of the general porn producer companies about 50 years ago), the Swedish Erotica brand pre-dates the Hungarian anal porn revolution.
Anyway, another important aspect of porn is that – according to many articles I have read regarding the relationship between porn and the development of Internet technologies – porn in generally (not anal porn specifically) “drove” the development of many Internet technologies. The early porn producers on the Internet were actually making huge amounts of money back then and they could afford to finance the research and development of many website methods, techniques, and standards. They needed a better Internet viewing experience to keep increasing their profits and size of market. I find the history of all that to be fascinating. (Yes, I am strange for sure.)
So, back to anal porn…
Though people have been having anal sex “forever”, I think most of us would agree that it is much more “accepted” or “mainstream” than even “just” 50 or 75 years ago. I wonder about what caused that increase in “acceptance”.
I don’t know for sure if “A” or “B” came first, but I am leaning toward “B”, but maybe that is just because “B” was my personal experience.
Probably A and B were so intertwined, feeding on each other in a spiral with ever-increasing speed, that after the first few months of the “Hungarian anal porn revolution” there is no way to usefully determine cause and effect.
Does anybody else wonder about this arcane subject?
