Good catch. This is actually intentional.
The same mutual permission system also applies to moderators receiving private messages. Otherwise it would leave moderators, especially female moderators, open to unsolicited messages, which would defeat one of the main goals of the system.
I’ve now enabled private messaging for you, so you should be able to contact me.
