Hi, any advice on how to best train my arse to allow for easier/wider penetration/toys?
I can usually take a normal dick no problem (although it might need some easing in and a slow start), but after that I pretty quickly top out.
I think butt plugs with a wider neck might be a good idea (any - more - recommendations? It seems glass provides the thickest neck? Some extra weight would be appreciated too).
You can think of anal training like stretching for gymnastics or yoga: You slowly enhance the range in which your muscles can operate. What helped lovers of mine is to feel into the muscles and actively try to relax them, breathing exercises, too. Oh, and any kind of training for your pelvic floor muscles is a good idea, too, as they raise your awareness for that muscles group. That, in turn, makes it easier for your to relax them when it’s play time
So, the most important thing is to go slow and be consistent. Many people enjoy plugging for extended periods, i.e. while cleaning their house / doing other chores. Stop when there’s pain and slowly increase the size of the plugs/dildos you insert.
A set of plugs going from small to larger might be a good idea, maybe someone could make a suggestion, I’ve mostly seen cheap trainer kits and never bought one.
Another thing you could try is using a cone-shaped toy and try to slowly take it deeper and deeper, over the course of days or weeks or even months.
And, the obvious disclaimer: Never use any numbing agents or poppers. You want to feel everything going on down there, and you’ll have the best of times if you can relax on your own.
What worked best for my wife was slowly helping her become more comfortable taking larger toys. She’s in a better position to explain why, but she learned to relax through the association of anal penetration and pleasure. Clit play can help during anal play as well.

Just a word of caution: Amazon warehouses are full of counterfeits. So it’s possible you do not get what you pay for in terms of material or brand.
Imagine it like this: Inside of the amazon warehouses, they have huge bins to store items. They are stored based on what the product is, not who sold it to amazon. So let’s say three different resellers offer the same item. All of them supplied their products to amazon, and they in turn put them all in the same bin. One of them delivered counterfeit stuff to amazon. So even if you buy from a reputed shop on amazon, that has no intention of ripping anyone off, the poor soul who works in the warehouse will still get any one item from the bin and ship it to you.
My training process started perhaps 30 years ago and while there has been lots of success along the way, my training continues to this day. The process itself became enjoyable for me. There was and is pleasure both in the process and in the results.
My suggestions are:
Be patient. As has been said by others, go slow.
Be willing to devote weeks or months, or more, to the endeavor.
Do something as often as you can and/or care to.
Using multiple very thin dildos can be useful (since they usually don’t have base, be sure they are longer than you think needed to not disappear inside!).
I found it helpful to go as wide and deep as I could and then just a little more. There should be some stretch, but not pain.
I found that there were plateau times (lasting many days or weeks) during which there seemed to be little progress and then fairly sudden advances to a new level.
Do not expect to achieve the same width as you go deeper. Again, multiple, thin (long to avoid loss inside) dildos, can match up with less width as depth increases.
Longer lasting “training” sessions helped me make more progress. With longer sessions, I found that some of the muscles eventually “surrendered” (without pain).
Carefully separate the perception of pain vs discomfort. There will be discomfort at times, which is an indicator to slow down and/or hold at that point and maintain that position for 10-30 minutes, if you can. Pay attention to your body so that you don’t get to the point of pain. But don’t freak out with a little discomfort.
Sometimes the training activity may not be particularly enjoyable in that moment, though I knew meeting my goals would be very enjoyable. Thus I found it helpful to focus on goals, challenges, and not worrying about how long the training was taking.
